Our latest instalment of RTL’s Eurovision podcast brings you into an energetic — and full! — studio with contestants sharing more about themselves and what’s happening ‘behind the curtain’ at Luxembourg Song Contest.
Follow along with Chrissi as she delves even further into the first-person feeling of audition time, possible secret happenings (and homework) at the Luxembourg Song Contest, and the greater motivations and even bigger backstories of Eurovision contenders Joël Marques and five-person band One Last Time.
Joël Marques is well-known throughout the country as a 2023 contestant on The Voice of Germany, but sees himself as a 'newcomer' to the music scene and among other Luxembourgish artists. One Last Time is an alternative rock band and the only group to compete in Luxembourg's final. Comprised of bandmates Andrea, Jona, Barbara, Tom and Lalo, the group came together two years ago through a combination of Covid meet-cutes and relationships spanning since toddlerhood.
In a conversation that exudes a heart-warming degree of camaraderie and mutual respect among the candidates, the contenders discuss the mishaps of their day-to-day performances, the power of believing in your own songs to take away the fear of not being good enough, and the insatiable, never-to-be-underestimated value of the word 'magnifique'. Just say it, you'll see. They also showcase an uncanny ability to spell and say words backwards.
Geek out with this week’s crowd of voices - who are not just Eurovision candidates but absolute enthusiasts of the spectacle - as they rejoice in their shared love of Queen and professed admiration for Eurovision winner Måneskin, while they refuse to hate any genre and riff on the state of pop today.
Listen to the podcast on RTL Play or through the link below, as Chrissi guides you through a joyful conversation that goes straight to the heart of being a young performer in Luxembourg on the verge of representing their country on one of the biggest international stages imaginable.
It’s a bit of hope, a bit of play, and not just a little determination to showcase who they are and what they can do. Listen here:
