ZERO POINT FIVE, a seasoned band with 15 years of musical history, is set to compete for he top spot at the Luxembourg Song Contest, blending their high school origins and unique sound into a story of passion, persistence, and success.
ZERO POINT FIVE, a band that has existed for the 15 years and is already quite established in Luxembourg, is one of seven finalists to vie for the top spot at the Luxembourg Song Contest this year. With their unique sound, it's no surprise that they have managed to make a name for themselves. Not only are their songs regularly being played on the radio, but they've also performed on stage numerous times already.
The band consists of Kiko Menichetti, Gilles Saracini, and Chris Reitz. The group has humble origins and began as a high school band at the Lycée des Garçons in Esch-sur-Alzette, founded by Kiko and Gilles.
Kiko's musical journey started early, influenced by his musically attuned mother and sister. His sister, Martina, occasionally joins the band to lend a hand with extra instruments. At just three years old, Kiko was already performing on stage. He was born in Italy and moved to Luxembourg at just two years old. Now 32, the Luxembourger lives in Schifflange and works as a school teacher. His other passions are coffee and good food, something which he makes for both family and band members.
Speaking of coffee: "The highlight of rehearsals, before we start, is getting a small boost", says Gilles, 34, a history teacher. He and Kiko, who were classmates in high school, formed ZERO POINT FIVE in 2009 and competed in the 'Wanns de eppes kanns' talent show.
The band has so far released two albums. While they once used to practice in rudimentary, smelly rehearsal rooms, Kiko now has a small studio at his home where they write songs. Chris, the third member, also has a studio in Esch where most of their recordings take place.
Chris, a professional musician and violinist, initially joined as a guest performer. Over time, as he was asked to play with the band more and more, he became a permanent member. One of the band's standout experiences, both musically and personally, was their 2022 tour across America.
It was a total of over 3,000 kilometres, and it was an intense time for the band members. All three enjoy sports and need it to unwind. But now, in the next few weeks, sports will probably take a backseat to allow all members to conserve energy for their upcoming performances at the Rockhal and potentially at the Eurovision Song Contest in Basel.
