It was not meant to be: Eva Marija's lyrics, stage presence, and whimsical elegance were not enough to charm international audiences the same way she had captured the hearts of Luxembourg.
Shortly after the results were announced, the singer appeared emotional but looked back on her performance with pride. "I really gave it my all. I sang with all of my heart. I am proud of myself and am already looking forward to what the future may hold," she said.
Despite the disappointment, Eva Marija also promptly thanked her supporters.
The favourites across the roster did not disappoint. Bulgaria, Ukraine, and Norway were the first qualifying countries to be announced. Also through are Australia, Romania, Malta, Cyprus, Albania, Denmark, and Czechia.
Austria went straight through as this year's host country. Thursday also saw performances from the 'Big Four' countries, including France and the United Kingdom. While 17-year-old Monroe from France showed a strong stage presence, the UK's LOOK MUM NO COMPUTER attracted a mix of ridicule and some subconscious head bops.
The moment was particularly emotional for her mother, Nataša Kavaš Puc. "For me, she will always remain a winner. Thank you very much, Luxembourg!" the singer's mother said immediately after the show.
"I am so proud of her. And I am proud of all the young people who dare to say what they feel and how they see the world," she added. The singer's mother also believes the song's message will endure. According to Nataša Kavaš Puc, "Mother Nature" will never die, and its message will never disappear either.
Despite her great disappointment, Eva Marija is already looking to the future. The musician said she is very grateful for the Eurovision adventure together with Luxembourg.
