The group Rhythmic Soulwave was formed by the common passion for music and the shared loathing for music theory, which motivated them to turn what they have learned into something people can listen to and enjoy.
The band Rhythmic Soulwave was founded two years ago, although a lot of the musicians have been practicing together for years. Others only joined the group half a year ago, but all the members got to know each other in the City conservatoire. They even had the idea to form a band during a lesson which forced them to cram music theory into their heads.
"We were at the end of an exam at the conservatoire and it was really hard. We were all lost. I asked Diego who sat next to me: 'Why don't we just play music?', to which he answered: 'That's a good idea.' Then we turned around to ask Carmen whether she wanted to sing, and that's how we got started", remembers Maël Fontana, the group's bass player.
The youngest of the group are Leopold Strauss on the trumpet and Lörinc Zakar playing the piano. Both musicians are in their penultimate year of high school, specialising in music. Angela Aguilera Caballero who plays the violin only joined a few months ago. Other members include Diego Lucero, the drummer, and finally their singer Carmen Carbonell Suarez. The band enjoys playing funk, soul, as well as modern pop, but they do not want to commit to one musical genre in particular.
"The type of music we play represents us – we are musicians who have come together from different backgrounds, but we are also trained in modern music, jazz, pop, rock, and latino", explains the singer of the group, Carmen.
Each of the six musicians plays a different instrument and thus has a different story to tell. However, what connects them is the universal language and love of music. Their song "Stronger" which they will be presenting at the Luxembourg Song Contest on 25 January is meant to distribute a positive message.
The song was written by Carmen Carbonell Suarez and her sister Naomi Ayé, who also produced the song. With Paumée sur Terre, she participated at the Luxembourg Song Contest in 2024.
