Inspired by the elegance of an old microphone, glassblower Pascale Seil brought her vision to life, crafting the Luxembourg Song Contest trophy in her Berdorf workshop.

Having previously crafted trophies, glassblower Pascale Seil was inspired to create a unique glass piece for the LSC Trophy. Her effort and artistry paid off, as she was selected to produce the trophy in her Berdorf workshop.

The idea took shape with sketches on her workshop board, where Pascale conceptualised the design. She drew inspiration from the shape of an old microphone, explaining:

"The idea of crafting a face in the glass came to me immediately. The glass represents the singer's transparency, their crystal-clear voice. The musical notes, which bring the music to life, are sandblasted onto the surface afterward. I shaped the mouth slightly more open to truly convey the essence of someone singing. And then there’s the air trapped in the body, which needs to be released in order to produce the notes."

The piece is the result of collaboration

Creating such a detailed piece required collaboration, as the glass cannot cool down too much during the process. "Everything has to happen quickly," Pascale explains. "The glass must stay in constant motion, either kept straight or twisted to make it longer. Once the object is blown, shaped, and cooled, it can no longer be altered."

Made of glass but stable

Although made of glass, the trophy is robust enough and won't break upon contact on stage. "It’s relatively thick glass, and the base is solid," Pascale assured. "I’ve never had an issue with a trophy breaking."

The trophy will be give to the winner of the LSC on stage at the Rockhal on 25 January.
